With the 26th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected Jordan Love. What. The. Heck. The only thought that was running through my brain when I heard the commissioner announce the Packers pick. The exact next thought in my brain was what is Aaron Rodgers thinking. A-Rod has been the Packers QB for 12 years and now all of a sudden the team grabs a new guy. The whole world waited to see Rodger’s reaction to the Packers pick. And yesterday we finally got our answer
In the interview, Rodgers expressed his feelings where he honestly seemed disappointed in the franchise. He also said he understood the pick, but he wasn’t thrilled by the pick. He would later go on to express that he wanted to play all the way to his 40s, and realized that he is not in control of playing with the Packers till the end of his career. Here is the small quote from the interview.
“And as much as I understand the organization’s future outlook and wanting to make sure they’re thinking about the team now and down the line — and I respect that — at the same time, I still believe in myself and have a strong desire to play into my 40s. And I’m just not sure how that all works together at this point.”
Rodgers is clearly annoyed about the whole situation and now the Packers have put their starting QB in a super weird position. Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said after the draft that the Packers are just trying to make the transition from generation to generation smoother. While this makes sense I just don’t think that organization thought this through well enough. The least this organization could do is at least say that Rodgers will be number one for a few more years. But they just aren’t saying anything, which isn’t helping.
Green Bay will be fighting an uphill battle in this upcoming year by just trying to get back to the playoffs with the stacked NFC. They already have enough things to worry about and they just added another one. We are going to dive into the future seasons after the added effects of the 26th pick.
A-Rod stays upset at the front management, yet decides to push through the 2020 season. Although the fight isn’t all the way there for Aaron as he envisions the end of his career. The Packers go 10-6 and win the division with the easier back half of the schedule. They don’t start as well as they wanted to but Rodgers gets it together and rallies back for some late wins. The Packers take an early loss in the first round of the playoffs and head into the offseason with their still lingering 26th pick.
The very next year Aaron demands a trade to gets out of Green Bay and moves to the Detriot Lions, the in-division rival. The Bears barely lose the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes, but A-Rod keeps a tiny bit of his Packers loyalty. All of a sudden the Lions blow up in 2021 with their high flying offense. In 2020 they still have problems on defense, which helps them grab another top 10 pick in the 2020 draft. Afterward, Matt Patricia is able to get the defense going well enough for the Lions to win. The Lions go 5-1 in the division sweeping the Packers, but both teams make the playoffs anyway. The Lions end of playing the Packers in the playoffs in the second round and the game is one sided. Rodgers throws 4 touchdowns in his revenge tour as the Packers win 45-21.
